High School Placement

Ready for anything.

Everything we do builds to prepare our students for entry into an impressive range of high schools in the city and region. Students graduate from our program as well rounded, articulate, confident and morally responsible individuals who are prepared to meet the challenges of a demanding secondary education and continue on the path of lifelong learning.

Process

In the spring of 7th grade, families start to work with our Placement Director, learning about the mechanics of the high school application process. They then spend some time as a family over the summer investigating schools. In the fall of their 8th grade year, students go on school visits and interviews, and in our weekly Decisions classes at school we support and guide them through the process. Several parent meetings throughout the course of the year as well as frequent and very detailed communication from the Placement Director help keep families informed and on track. It’s a true team approach between the Placement Director, our Upper School Head, student support team and teachers. The Head of School is involved as well, often doing mock interviews with students. There is a real support system around the students and families throughout this process, to provide some comfort and safety, but also to push them to really consider all their options.

Relationships

Town partners closely with students and their families throughout the high school application process.

Our Director of Placement, Upper School Head and Upper School student support team all teach our 8th grade students regularly, which means deep knowledge of each individual child informs reference letters, meetings with families, and conversations with high school admissions officers.

Town is known for our integrity in advocating for our students with other schools. High school admissions officers know that our goal is simply to help connect students with the best fit possible, and the information we share is based in real, lived experience with each individual student.

Outcomes

Our graduates begin high school with confidence and self-knowledge that can only be achieved through a rigorous, well-designed placement process.
