2. Parent conversation.
Once you have completed your application, you may schedule your parent conversation through your application portal. If you met with Debbie Ashe this spring for a parent conversation, we consider this portion of your process complete! You are welcome to schedule a follow-up check-in at any time.
3. Community connections.
As part of our virtual admissions process for 2021-22, we are designing new, optional ways to get to know our school and community. Though we love our home on East 76th Street, we have been reminded through this pandemic that a Town education is about so much more than just a building; our community of past and present families, our incredible teachers, and our dedicated staff make our school a wonderful place to grow and learn. Our first community experience will be a short video with many Town voices sharing their perspectives on our school, followed by opportunities for live conversations with parents, students, academic leaders, and more. 4. Getting to know your child.
We are designing a developmentally appropriate, 1:1 assessment experience, based on our faculty’s expertise around how children interact most successfully in a virtual setting. For 5th - 8th grades this will be a Zoom conversation, and we will invite select teachers to join to administer specific assessments such as math and reading/writing. We will communicate with families in advance of the session to help students feel as comfortable as possible. We will also work to know your child through multiple lenses including examples of their artwork, writing, building projects, or other hobbies, and insights from the people who know them best: teacher recommendations and parent reflections. More details will be included in your application portal, and please don't hesitate to ask us questions any time.
Brief student essay
Students will be asked to complete a brief essay on one of six offered topics. You will find the topic options in your application checklist in the Admissions portal, once you have submitted your application. Please have your child set aside about 30 minutes to write this essay, which is intended as a writing sample to help us get to know your child better.
5. Teacher recommendations.
Please submit the recommendation forms to your child's current English and Math teachers, and to their 2019-20 teachers, if possible. The school should email the completed forms, and transcripts, directly to us at firstname.lastname@example.org, by January 8, 2021.

Our stance on testing during a pandemic: Town will not require or accept standardized assessments for students of any age during this Admissions season. We understand that all families are experiencing unique stresses during this time. We also believe that consistently equitable testing circumstances are not possible during the continuing COVID-19 outbreak. We look forward to learning about our applicants from their families and their teachers, as well as through direct engagement with the students through age-appropriate virtual meetings.
Notification and Reply Dates
The Town School follows the ISAAGNY notification and reply dates for the 2021-2022 School Year (for applications and files completed by January 8, 2021).
1st - 8th grades
- Families will be notified (by email) of their admissions decision not before Tuesday, February 9, 2021.
- Parent replies are due no later than noon on Tuesday, March 2, 2021.
