Be a partner in your child's education.
Our parent body is dedicated to enriching our children’s educational experience and creating a positive school community.
We encourage every parent to be an active partner in their child’s learning by attending teacher conferences and parent education events. Our parents are also essential members of our community, sharing their time, energy, experience, and unique skills, helping to ensure that Town continues to thrive.
Town offers many ways to get involved in the daily life of the school, which helps parents to have a greater understanding and appreciation for a Town education.
“The skills, love of learning, and memories from Town last a lifetime!”
Ways to get involved:
School Events: Fun and community building for the whole family
Our Parents’ Association (PA) organizes several all-school events each year. Below are a few highlights:
TownFest: The Town community celebrates the Fall season with a Sunday afternoon carnival filled with activities, games, and fun for the whole family all on 76th Street.
All School Picnic: Each Spring, parents, faculty, children, and administrators are invited to this highly enjoyable and informal gathering offsite in Central Park or on Randall’s Island.
Book Fair: The Book Fair culminates with a Saturday family morning that includes storytelling, a family community service project, activities for the children, books galore, and a pancake breakfast for everyone.
Parents' Association: You're automatically a member
The purpose of The Town School Parents’ Association (PA) is to build and encourage a united, inclusive and supportive parent community and to work with the school to provide a network of communication between parents, faculty and administration. The PA provides parent support and sponsorship for school-initiated community services and all-school events fostering school spirit. The PA also sponsors a series of speakers throughout the school year, focused around parenting topics.
All parents are automatically members of the PA and there are many opportunities to become involved (volunteers are welcome whether they have one hour or several days to offer), meet other parents, and connect with great conversations around parenting in New York City.
Parent Education: Learn about curriculum, culture, initiatives and more
Guest speakers address parents on a variety of topics related to child development throughout the year.
Faculty lead curriculum evenings and parent education evenings with important information specific to each grade level.
Morning coffees with Division Heads, the Head of School, and the Technology Department are another way for parents to better understand Town's curriculum and major initiatives.
Volunteering: Something for everyone
For select events throughout the school year, our entire Town community past and present are invited to participate in and support community action or all school events. Current families, current and former faculty and staff, and alumni/ae families are all encouraged to get involved in events such as Rise Against Hunger.
Whether parents volunteer at a single event or serve on a committee all year, Town appreciates each parent’s generous gift of his/her time and energy.
Throughout the year, parents have various opportunities — from chaperoning field trips to working in the Library — to volunteer and be a part of their child’s learning experiences. Involvement in the classroom allows parents to have a greater understanding of a Town education and their child’s daily life.
