5th Graders Survey the UES for Waste Stream Options
Students wrote of their findings to city officials.
After surveying the Upper East Side for waste stream options, 5th graders wrote letters to elected officials, heads of city departments, and community organizations to share their thoughts, concerns, praise, and ideas. The big takeaways: there are lots of garbage cans which is great; we have almost no recycle bins which needs to be fixed; and, we would like the addition of Smart Compost Bins to our neighborhood.
A few weeks after they sent their letters, they received responses from several city officials. Thanks in part to the letters they wrote to New York City officials, the Upper East Side is getting 22 Smart Composting Bins installed!
